What type of wall-mounted shelving is there?

Twin Slot

Twin Slot is a wall-mounted shelving system comprising of uprights, brackets and shelves. The name derives from the pairs of slots that are evenly spaced along each upright, in which brackets and components are secured.

A wide range of compatible accessories, including shelf ends, hanging rails and arms, can be incorporated to expand usage and application. Twin Slot offers a clean, modern appearance and is comparable to floating shelving, but unlike floating shelves, the uprights and brackets remain visible, providing both structural support and easier adjustability.

Flexx

Flexx is a modular, wall-mounted shelving system designed around a track-based installation, allowing you to “drag and drop” uprights to position and reconfigure as required. The core components of the system include the wall-mounted track, uprights, brackets and shelves, enabling a flexible, reconfigurable layout.

The system is particularly suited to extended or continuous installations, such as wardrobes or pantries, due to its assembly and the variety of compatible accessories and components available.

Example accessories include hanging rails, multiple basket types, and either wood-effect or wire shelves, allowing the system to be tailored to specific storage and organisational requirements.

Where can you use wall-mounted shelving?

Twin Slot

Twin Slot is suitable for both displays and light-to-medium storage. If used for storage, it is not recommended for intensive loading, but it is well-suited for commercial, office and administrative environments, particularly when combined with accessories such as shelf ends to improve organisation.

For more heavy-duty requirements, such as in a medical, garage, or stockroom, steel shelves provide a more robust base, plus they’re moisture-resistant, antimicrobial, and easy to wipe down.

Twin Slot can also be configured for clothing storage and displays by adding hanging rails and arms, making it useful in retail settings, workplaces, and the home.

Flexx

Flexx Shelving can be used for a range of applications. Like Twin Slot, Flexx isn’t recommended for very heavy loading and storage, and is more used for retail displays. It is particularly effective for wardrobe and clothing storage, with accessories such as hanging rails and baskets available to enhance and create a complete wardrobe system.

Although both can be installed as ‘single’ units, they are also suitable for extended or continuous wall shelving. Flexx offers a more straightforward method for expansion out of the two with its track-based system, which allows additional uprights to be positioned along the track (space and length of existing track allowing). Existing components can be removed, and uprights repositioned or added as required, without the need for a complete replacement or complex overhaul.

What colours/finishes are available?

Twin Slot

Twin Slot offers the widest range of colour and finish options. Uprights, brackets and most accessories are available in Chrome, Black, White or Silver. While Chrome and Silver sound similar, Chrome has a shiny, reflective finish, while Silver has a more subdued, matte finish.

Shelf options include a variety of wood-effect finishes, such as Oak, White and Black, as well as steel and glass shelves.

Flexx

All Flexx components are available in white, with shelves in wood-effect or wire.

How do you install wall-mounted shelving?

Twin Slot and Flexx have similar component types, such as uprights, brackets and shelves; however, they differ in their assembly methods and installation approach. Both systems are generally straightforward to install though, and require similar tools and equipment.

As with all wall-mounted shelving, it’s important to use the appropriate fixings for your wall type to ensure the units are fully secured.

Twin Slot

Twin Slot uprights are mounted onto the wall first, on which the brackets and then the shelves (plus any other accessories) are added. The brackets, shelves and accessories can be moved up and down the uprights easily, so you can space them however you prefer.

Flexx

The Flexx track can be trimmed down to size if required. If doing so, you need to make sure that the section you use includes the indentations for the uprights to hook onto. Once ready, the track can be mounted onto the wall. The uprights are then hooked onto the track and can be moved along to where you need them, spacing them accordingly for components. Before adding anything to the uprights, they need to be secured to the wall.

Further components and accessories can be added, removed or repositioned at a later stage, allowing the system to be easily reconfigured as storage requirements change.

What components and accessories are available?

The main components for Twin Slot are uprights, brackets and shelves. Available accessories include shelf ends, hanging rails and arms.

An important detail to note with Flexx, is that there are different brackets/fittings, which pair with different components i.e. wire shelves require wire shelf brackets, baskets require sliding frames etc.

Both systems are available in pre-configured kits in popular combinations. Individual components are also offered, enabling bespoke system design or simple future expansion or adaptations.

Are components and accessories interchangeable between Twin Slot and Flexx?

Although Twin Slot and Flexx share similar components, their parts and accessories are not interchangeable. The uprights spacing differs between the systems: Twin Slot uses a 32mm pitch, while Flexx uses a 50mm pitch, meaning brackets and components are only compatible within their designated system.

Flexx uprights also have hooks at one end that are used to engage with and hold onto the wall-mounted track, allowing the upright to be positioned along the track before being secured to the wall.

Are Twin Slot and Flexx adjustable?

Both Twin Slot and Flexx have components which are easy to adjust. Brackets, shelves and other accessories can be repositioned quickly along the uprights. With other types of wall-mounted shelving, you may need to remove shelves and uprights completely to move or make any changes. Flexx’s track-based design further simplifies changes, making it easier to add uprights and other components (space allowing) without necessarily needing to take apart the whole unit.
